Once, the idea of tokenizing tangible assets like collectible sneakers or artwork seemed like a whimsical experiment. Fast forward to today, and tokenized Real-World Assets (RWAs) represent a thriving, multi-billion-dollar market—a transformative force bridging traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi).

As blockchain technology continues to mature, RWA tokenization has emerged as one of the most compelling use cases for Web3 firms, DeFi platforms, and blockchain-based financial service providers. By bridging the gap between traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi), RWA tokenization is unlocking new opportunities for portfolio diversification, liquidity, and accessibility.

Let’s explore some of the most successful RWA tokenization projects, and breakdown their relevance for Web3 enterprises and potential to accelerate adoption.

The Potential of RWA Tokenization

Tokenization involves creating digital representations of real-world assets on blockchain networks, enabling fractional ownership, enhanced transparency, and greater accessibility. For Web3 firms, tokenized RWAs offer a unique opportunity to tap into stable, tangible value streams while maintaining the advantages of blockchain technology.

From real estate and U.S. Treasuries to gold and money market funds (MMF), tokenization is revolutionizing how assets are managed and traded. Among these, tokenized MMFs stand out for their unique ability to bridge the TradFi-DeFi divide.

What can be tokenized?

Case Studies: Success Stories in RWA Tokenization

Real Estate: DAMAC and MANTRA Tokenize $1 Billion in Assets

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Dubai-based real estate developer DAMAC partnered with blockchain platform MANTRA to tokenize $1 billion worth of assets, including real estate properties and data centers.

By leveraging the blockchain and tokenization, DAMAC has made traditionally illiquid assets more accessible to investors worldwide—allowing smaller investors to participate in high-value real estate projects previously limited to institutional players (Source: Reuters).

U.S. Treasuries: A Growing Market for Tokenized Funds

The market capitalization of tokenized U.S. Treasury funds reached $3.4 billion in January 2025, up from $773 million in the previous year. This rapid growth corresponds with the increasing demand for tokenized government securities, which offer the stability of traditional treasuries combined with the efficiency and liquidity of blockchain-based assets (Source: RWA.xyz).

In 2024, DigiFT launched the first ever U.S. Treasury Bill depository receipt tokens that represent direct beneficial ownership in the underlying U.S. Treasury Bill. These tokens represent a fractional beneficial interest in the underlying capital market securities, allowing investors to legally lay claim to and directly benefit from the economic returns generated by the underlying assets.

Gold Tokenization: Tether’s XAUT

Gold—long regarded as a safe haven asset—has entered the digital age with the launch of XAUT, Tether’s gold-backed stablecoin. Each XAUT token represents ownership of one troy ounce of physical gold stored securely in Switzerland.

This innovation allows investors to access gold in a digital, easily tradable format, eliminating the logistical challenges of owning and storing physical gold. For Web3 firms, XAUT provides a stable, globally recognized asset for portfolio diversification and hedging against volatility (Source: Financial Times).

Money Market Funds: UBS’s uMINT

A standout example in the realm of RWA tokenization is UBS’s first tokenized money market fund (MMF)—UBS USD Money Market Fund Investment (uMINT)— built on Ethereum’s blockchain. Unlike many other tokenized instruments that rely on third-party platforms, UBS has developed its in-house tokenization capabilities through its UBS Tokenize platform.

uMINT introduces Web3 investors to an institutional-grade financial instrument traditionally known for its yield-generating, liquid, and stable characteristics. By tokenizing MMFs, UBS bridges the gap between TradFi and DeFi, offering access to these assets in a secure, risk-managed framework.

DigiFT, as an authorized distribution partner for uMINT, plays a key role in expanding access to this innovative tokenized MMF, bringing institutional-grade RWAs into the Web3 ecosystem.

Why Tokenized RWAs Matter for Web3 Firms

What’s Next

As the above case studies demonstrate, tokenization is no longer a theoretical concept, but a proven solution that is reshaping the financial ecosystem. For Web3 firms, the opportunity to leverage RWAs is immense, offering new ways to innovate, diversify, and grow within the blockchain economy.

DigiFT is at the forefront of this transformation, bridging the gap between TradFi and DeFi by bringing a diverse range of tokenized assets into the Web3 ecosystem. While MMFs like uMINT provide a strong foundation, more institutional-grade RWAs are on the horizon, expanding opportunities for investors and reshaping the way value moves on-chain.

From real estate and U.S. Treasuries to gold and money market funds, tokenized assets are paving the way for a more diversified and efficient financial future.
